How do I measure up for a garage door?

You should measure the opening between walls and from the floor to the underside of the lintel. You can then use this when speaking to a specialiston the phone to find out what garage doors will be available for your home.

What is a retractable door?

This is a one-piece ‘up & over’ garage door with lifting arms and springs to each side and horizontal tracks inside the garage that support the door when open. When fully open most of the door is inside the garage.

What is a canopy door?

This is a one-piece ‘up & over’ garage door with a torsion spring above, and vertical tracks on the inside face of the frame.

My garage door is heavy to lift and doesn’t open easily of its own accord, what can I do?

The first thing to do is lubricate all moving parts and tracks with a spray oil. (Do not use grease). If the door is still heavy or stiff you should now contact your local garage door specialist and arrange a service.

Can retractable garage doors be automated?

Yes. Retractable doors are ideal for automation.

How do I maintain my garage door?

You should be lubricating all moving parts and tracks at least every six months. We also recommend having a Garage Door Specialist service your door every 2 or 3 years. For more help and guidance see our article all about maintaining your garage door.

Why do I have a gap at the bottom of my door?

Up & Over and side hinged garage doors need clearance beneath to enable them to operate. You can fit a draught strip to the bottom of the door. These can be bought from local specialists or online.

How many locking points are there on a door?

This varies but on Select Canopy doors there are three and on Retractable doors there are two.

Can you get inward opening side hinged doors?

Yes. Select side hinged doors can be ordered to open inwards with no extra cost.

Can I have my new door fitted to my existing timber frame?

Yes. The frame needs to be in good condition, and square and level.

Can I have a door with a different coloured steel frame?

Yes. Select steel frames can be ordered in a huge range of colours. Take a look at our image gallery for some stunning examples.
